From War to Reconciliation: 60 Years of Friendship, 70 Years of Peace between Us
2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It also marks the 60th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Nagasaki, Japan. How do we go from war to peace? From enemies to friends? From despair to resilience?
This website is a resource both for events but also curricula and other resources for peace-making. It is a joint venture of Hamline University School of Education, the Saint Paul – Nagasaki Sister City Committee, and World Citizen.
Highlights of this anniversary year are the Nagasaki Peace Exhibition, opening August 22, 2015, at Landmark Center in downtown Saint Paul, and the Pictures from a Hiroshima Schoolyard film and display which begins September 19 also at the Landmark Center. Opportunities for teachers to preview the materials will be provided and some bus transportation for student groups to visit the exhibits will be available.
