Supporting cultural exchanges and education.
The Saint Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee is committed to cultural understanding and appreciation, through both public and members-only events, and the continual development of our sister city relationship with Nagasaki, Japan.
Our first programs helped the city of Nagasaki recover from the damage it sustained from nuclear bombing during World War II. Today, we continue to connect Japanese and American cultures through grass-roots ambassadorship and to promote Japanese culture in the greater Twin Cities metro area.
What We Do
The Saint Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee (SPNSCC) was commissioned as the first Japanese-American city partnership in 1955, predating the International Sister City Affiliation enacted by Congress during the Eisenhower administration. Its purpose was, and continues to be, to promote beneficial relationships between the American and Japanese people in the two cities, and to promote the cause of peace.
Who We Are
Hello, World!
“…our faith in the great promise of people-to-people and sister city affiliations in helping build the solid structure of world peace.”
— President Dwight D. Eisenhower
