Second Annual Momijigari Picnic
It's that time of year again, when the leaves are changing color. This year, the leaves are changing quickly! Let's get together and enjoy them while we can.
Momiji-gari literally means "maple leaf gathering" and refers to the practice and appreciation of viewing, or "taking in," autumn leaves and scenery. Similar to hanami, "flower viewing," in the spring, it is a tradition which calmly reflects on the changing of seasons and celebrates nature's beauty. In Japan, many travel to nearby mountains to hike, or simply enjoy meeting in the local parks.
Momiji-gari provides us a great opportunity to enjoy the cherry trees gifted to us by Nagasaki in a different season and with a fresh perspective. Como Park additionally has many other species of trees and plants also undergoing their own chromatic transformations. Let's enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons together!
When: Saturday, October 22nd, 1:00 to 3:00 PM
Where: Como Park, near our cherry trees at the Mannerheim Memorial
Japanese treats and green tea will be provided. Attendees are welcome to bring additional items to share, or to pack their own bento lunches.
