Guest from Nagasaki
SPNSCC welcomed Nagasaki St. Paul Sister City Committee President Takayuki Miyanishi for a one week stay in May. He is the first visitor from Nagasaki since the pandemic spoiled our plans to celebrate 65 years of friendship in 2020. Miyanishi-san brought greetings and treats from our Nagasaki friends and was also honored by the Saint Paul Civic Symphony at their concert on Mother’s Day, May 12. Miyanishi met with Jim Scheibel of Hamline University, Sansei Yonsei Kai and their travel group, Noah Petermeier from Como Park about Obon, and brought a letter from Mayor Shiro Suzuki to St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter. He also visited Minnehaha Falls and the Urban Tennis program in St. Paul. Long distance, he taught his class at Nagasaki University and Zoomed with Ritsuko Fukuda, who is bringing tennis players to Minnesota in August.
